Designing the Radiant Soul Photography Logo

As with any business, there's a heartfelt story that supports the foundation and image of Radiant Soul Photography. I always envisioned the logo as an artistic creation that incorporates my family, some of my favorite natural elements, and of course, the brand name itself. With that being said, I'm thrilled to present the official logo for Radiant Soul Photography!

Back in September 2018, I was fortunate enough to attend a photography retreat (Day 7 Workshop) that totally changed the photography game for me. Actually, it changed my life - not even kidding! It was at this very workshop where I met an extremely talented gal by the name of Lauren. As a graphic designer, Lauren has been a huge help as we worked together to come up with a logo design for Radiant Soul that perfectly captured my ideal logo. To say I’m impressed with Lauren’s artistic abilities and vision would be an understatement. My logo turned out to be something I could have never dreamed of - even if I tried! But, it did take some time to get there...

There’s a reason why my logo wasn’t complete the very second my photography business was born. The truth is, when RS started, my brain was running in a million different directions. Do I have all the equipment I need? I should order business cards soon. I definitely need to have a website built for the business. Oh, and my Facebook page needs to be updated, too!

The uncertainty was real, but the one solidarity thing I was 100% certain of was the name “Radiant Soul” (I'll be sure to write on that soon!). With so much on my plate at the time, I told myself I could revisit the logo conversation once things settled down a bit. At the time, I wasn’t sure when that exact time would be. That is, until the Day 7 Workshop. Meeting Lauren at the Day 7 Workshop helped me realize there was a reason I had no interest in creating the logo myself. Lauren was meant to create my logo, and boy am I glad she did!

So, what’s the symbolism behind the RS logo? If you know me at all, you know nothing is just simply as it is. There’s a reason for everything, and I’m constantly looking for the meaning of those somethings in life. So, do you think my logo would be anything different? Of course not!

Even though Lauren ultimately designed the RS logo, I still had a bit of homework to do myself. I sat down many times and jotted down my thoughts, but I kept coming back to the same piece of paper over and over again. When I finally felt I was ready, I contacted Lauren and poured all my ideas into her creative mind. Her imagination ran wild after speaking and not long after, we had a finalized logo!

Is it a sun? Is it a flower? You tell me! Really, it can be either or, and that’s exactly how I hope it’s perceived. Everything in life is about perception, which is why I chose this design for my logo. It isn’t up to ME to choose for YOU. There’s meaning behind both, so choose however you see fit!

Sun: Having the logo represent the sun in some way is important to me. If you’re a photographer or nature lover like me, you know the importance of the golden hours. This is where so many treasured memories are captured. Weather it be sunrise or sunset, there’s nothing quite like witnessing the sun’s radiance in full bloom. It’s simply pure magic. Hence, the golden yellowish color in the RS logo.

Flower: My sweet grandmother’s favorite flower is a gerbera daisy. Before retirement, my grandmother and her lifelong best friend partnered to open their own flower shop. I always knew I wanted to somehow incorporate this into the RS logo. Specifically, a yellow gerbera daisy. Why? Besides yellow being the color that symbolizes the sun and its radiance, the yellow gerbera daisy is known for happiness and cheerfulness.
